Life insurance with mental health issues

Hi all,
About 7 years ago DH had a pretty serious mental health issue and is still taking medication now. It’s all under control and he’s been in a good place for 5 years but he was recently declined life insurance. Do any of you know of any life insurance companies who might provide cover that excludes self harm or suicide? He’s not at significant risk of either of those but I understand why a life insurance company might be cautious.
we would like him to be covered for being hit by a bus or getting cancer, but accept that his diagnosis means that even indirectly he may be more at risk of heath conditions (maybe severe mental health issues mean the rest of your health is more likely to be neglected).
it was Aviva who turned him down and it was a long drawn out process that we dont really want to repeat with other companies unless there is a better chance of success…. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Scottish Widows refused to cover me at the time I applied but said that I could reapply when I hadn't had any 'incidents' for two years and they would look on my application favourably. If I ever make it to the two year mark, I will reapply!

OP can I ask did they just just say no after you answered all their questions?
Or did they ask you speak to your husband's doctor and him and then say no?

They had all his doctors notes.
He suffered stress induced psychosis that resulted in him believing he had health issues that he didn’t have and without going into details he was in a bad way (but never a danger to himself or anybody else) so we did expect this to be a difficult. Just hoping we can still get cover from somewhere for whatever they would consider unrelated.

Thank you - we’ll give them a call next week and see what they say.
Hope you are feeling well and able to get your cover sorted soon.

Dead happy are a new life insurance company that actually do cover mental health issues. Give it a go and look them up- they do bipolar, major depression etc .. I was surprised and very happy to find them. Things are looking up!

I'd be interested to know how much it is if you do find a quote OP. To see if it's ridiculous inflated price
