Child benefit

Hi, I’m hoping somebody can clarify child benefit thresholds and filling in a tax return. My husband earns £52000 gross, but net pay is much less due to pension contributions / childcare vouchers / etc. As his net pay is under £50000, does he still need to fill in a tax return? I’m assuming we are ok to still be receiving child benefit.

I thought he didn’t - but DH seems to think he needs to do it now.
Thank-you!

No, he doesn’t need to do anything. His taxable salary after pension contributions is under £50k so you’re fine to carry on claiming and no need to do a tax return.

Your DH needs to calculate whether his 'adjusted net income’ is over £50k.
If so, a proportion of the CB will need to be paid back via self assessment.

I’m in the exact same position and very confused. That government link is clear as mud on adjustable net income. It’s another language to me! On my payslip there is one column with what I am paid and a minus of childcare vouchers. In another column there is my tax, NI and pension contribution. I have no idea if the pension contribution is ‘gross’ or ‘net of basic rate tax relief (grossed up)?! Do I just take my pension contribution off my total gross pay and times by 12 to get my adjustable net income?! And if it is under £50k then, I do nothing?
