WTC and Free School Meals

Hi,

I wondered if anybody could help.

I was in receipt of child tax credit and working tax credit however my working tax credit stopped yesterday. I am guessing this is because I updated my expected income on there to reflect the back pay that schools received in December. This must of caused an overpayment.

As I am no longer receiving working tax credit, will I now be entitled to free school meals (my income is below the threshold). Sounds like a silly question as I meet the criteria but wasn’t sure if not receiving tax credits due to be overpayment would be the same as not being in receipt of if that makes sense!

I have contacted my local council but they are unable to help or answer my questions until I receive documentation from HMRC

Thanks in advance

Holly221288. We were in the same situation and I contacted the school who said that DS is entitled to FSM until he finishes primary. In the meantime we had a letter from a debt collection agency to say we owe £2.5k from an overpayment in tax credits. We are earning above the threshold now. I also updated our circumstances online but they continued paying tax credits. Now they want it back! It doesn't ask for details of FSM on my HMRC account. I really hope they won't want that back too! Good luck!
