Higher earners - child benefit/pensions/student loan

Hi
I’ve been googling lots and cannot figure out what to do or if I need to!
I recently got put up to approx 55000 annually (gross). I pay approx 10% to pensions and about £300 a mth to student loans (type 1 I think - borrowed in 2000-2003)
does this mean I don’t need to worry about the 50-60k bracket for doing something about not claiming all of child benefit?
do I need to do anything just in case?

Student loans do count towards your taxable earnings but pension contributions do not if they are paid before tax as a salary sacrifice. So if you earn 55k and 10% of that goes straight to pension then your taxable income would be under 50k and you can claim child benefit without having to worry about paying any of it back.

Thanks - I’m learning lots trying to figure this out and it doesn’t look like mines a salary sacrifice but a defined benefit. So would they still count?
I’ve also realised - I think this is right - that as my earnings only went up in sept then I don’t need to panic until after April and the new tax year.

Are you a teacher (going by your username)? If so then your pension contributions come out of your pay before it’s assessed for tax so your taxable pay is under £50k.

And yes you’re right that you wouldn’t need to worry this year anyway as the pay change only happened in September, as it’s taxable income over the tax year (April-March) that counts.

I am! Hence why my pay has gone up to a point I have to think about it. That’s good to know thank you. I find it weird how little there is to answer questions online as I can’t be the only one wondering.
