Pension for Self Employed?

SeriouslySomething1 · 30/12/2023 09:48

I am in my 3rd year of self employment. In my early 50s. Have useless small pension pots scattered around from previous jobs.
I need to start seriously sorting something!
Any advice on pension for self employed
I know i have a Nest one from agency work, I think I can just pay into that?

Yes, nest is the universal pension I think. My last few jobs have all come with a nest pension

You might feel more be in charge if you bring them all together in one pot at this stage - probably with nest? Check out their website

Yep anyone can pay into NEST.

I actually receive an NHS pension.

I consolidated the small pots into a SIPP and I put a small amount in to NEST.

I am on track for a full state pension, that's probably where you should start.

I had a long conversation with pension wise about my options.

Yes you can pay into Nest manually. Depending on when you plan to retire, you might want to check out other pensions. I personally have a stocks and shares pension with Nutmeg as I find it very easy to manage (digital only – I’m in my mid-30s), but there are tons out there from fully managed to very personalised.

Before consolidating, do check out the benefits and terms of your current different pension schemes, as you may find you want to keep some/one of them. Nest is pretty ‘bog standard’.
