Tumble dryer stopped working

We bought our tumble dryer in February. It worked absolutely fine the first few months. Then, a couple of months ago, just stopped drying properly. After several cycles we have to give up and hang our clothes out to dry.

We contacted the company and they sent someone out to have a look. They did some tests (just to see if water was running through etc) and said it worked fine, gave some advice and left. But the issue continued.

Contacted them again and they sent someone else from an external company. Again, he checked it, said all seemed fine, gave more advice and left. We've followed all the advice.

The external company said to contact them again if we need to but I don't know if it's best to go back to the company. I would like for them to exchange it, but then I don't know if we will end up with the same problem again but be out of warranty. Any advice on this?

You mention water flowing. Condenser driers are prone to faults where the condensate is not being pumped out or spuriously reporting the condensate tank full.

It's under 12months old so I'd be getting the retailer on the job. If it's persistently faulty then it's not fit for what it was sold as and they're in the frame.

No, there's only a light that comes on at the end of a drying cycle to remind you to clean the filter, but that's it. It sounds like the first visit tested to make sure the condensate was being pumped through. Is it possible there could be a mechanical fault they've not picked up on?

I can go back to the retailer but I'm just worried they'll keep denying any fault and I won't get anywhere with them.

@curlyrebel just a thought but are things as wet when they finish as when you started? Our dryer, 2017 Bosch heat pump jobby, sometimes leaves things quite damp. Another 30 minutes on times sorts it.

If it's faulty and the seller won't deal with it then you may need to hardball them with Consumer Law. Citizens Advice website has some useful template letters.

We had a caravan, bought brand new, where the plastic shower tray, which was also the toilet floor, cracked around the circumference of the drain after 18 months and maybe 50 nights. Dealer said tough luck, waranty on plastic parts is 12 months and wanted £800 to fettle it.

A strongly worded letter pointing out that the floor was not fit for purpose. It was ill supported and, on later models, the drain was in the opposite corner where it was not subject to weight when we entered or left.

Floor was replaced FoC and with a the revised location for the drain.

Yes, pretty much @Bromptotoo. If there is any heat coming through, there's not much of it. We put it on for extra time but it doesn't get any drier.

That's great you got it sorted out with the letter. Good idea to use Citizen Advice site. I'll see how I get on by speaking to them and if no joy I can go down that road.

I might call the repair people back and make them see how it is with actual clothes. If they're able to get to the bottom of the issue or at least acknowledge that there is a problem, then that would be better I think.
