Universal Credit !!! (worryworm strikes again!)

I recently had to leave my work as a teaching assistant due to stress and anxiety. Whilst I have another job on the side as an artist- I have not been making enough from this to make rent.
Now I am ''unemployed'' I am actively looking and applying for new jobs. However whilst I'm in this unemployed moment I am considering claiming universal credit-mainly so that I can continue to pay my rent on time (as I have been able to since moving in 2 years ago!).
My main question is: what has your experience been as a tenant on universal credit and did you have to deal with your landlord much when applying?
Thank you in advance netters!

First things first. You do not need to tell the Landlord you are applying. They will not approach the Landlord without your consent.

When you claim you complete a series of 'to do' tasks covering things like work, dependents, health etc. One of them is Housing. They need to know if you rent privately or from a Social LAndlord, how much your rent is and how many bedrooms you have. You will need to tell them who the Landlord is and show proof of rent etc - your tenancy agreement should be enough.

Provided they're satisfied about occupation, liability to pay etc then a Housing Cost Element will be added to your award.

For the vast majority of claimants it's perfectly straightforward.

@Bromptotoo thank you! I've managed to fly through all the other 'to-do's' (as I claimed UC back in 2018-19) , was just worried about the housing one as they were asking for landlords details etc.

It’s very rare they will contact your landlord unless they ask for the rent to be paid directly to them.
