do distance selling regulations apply to non-tangible goods?

Have to make a complaint to a company this morning and before I do I want to know where I stand legally (roughly).

So - if I purchase something online - eg web hosting, advertising, whatever, do I still have the right to cancel within 14 days?

Don't need a full answer, just need to sound like I know what I'm talking about I think. But I would be interested to know anyway if you have time!

Also (just out of interest really) do virtual "contracts" (i.e. those web forms that make you tick a box to say you agree with their terms) actually stand up in law?

Thanks wig, very helpful.

They turned out to be very nice about it after all (I was expecting a fight). But we purchase this kind of thing a lot (memberships etc) so that will come in very handy.

You've got me worried now though - if I was to sell a website, presumably the client would also have the right to cancel, but we would have spent time working on it. Need to check up and make a policy I think!
