Buying somewhere to live, at some point in next few years...

I have finally arrived at a point where I consider myself in a financially secure enough position to be able to look at buying somewhere hopefully in the next year or so. Various life and financial things have happened, as they do, including paying off debts and living with relatives to help with savings.

I will be the only person on the morgage, in my forties with an average public sector income. I am very aware of the turbulent condition of various factors in the world at the moment, but I have to start somewhere.

I have about £22,000 in savings at the moment, including in a help to buy ISA. I might treat this thread as a place for questions, check in, a 'what on earth am I doing?' area.

At the moment, I have a morgage in principe and I went to view two flats to get a sense of what is out there. That was at least a start, and now I want to continue research into shared ownership and my next step is getting an idea of what my monthly outgoings would be on the other side of it all. Hello, to anyone in a similar position, or who has been there, or knows stuff...might see you in some posts here whilst I am working this out.
