There’s other factors. Do you rent or pay a mortgage?
UC will pay towards rent but not a mortgage
childcare costs? Etc
first child if born before 2017 you get a higher child element than children born after 2017.

there are a few benefits calculators out there that will help.

Benefits calculators

Find out what benefits you could get, how much you could get and how to claim

We rent we dont get any housing benefit or council tax reduction.

If you rent why don’t you get help with it? Do you have savings?

TeaKitten · 12/11/2023 23:01

Also matters if you have childcare costs. You need to give more info basically. The entitled to calculator is great

Louisekelly · 12/11/2023 23:40

We arent entitled to any housing benefit and no savings.

The entitled to calculator will take you through step by step.
Even though you don’t get Hb currently renting costs will be added to your UC to make up the elements

i’ve done a random mock up based a couple with 3 children living in birmingham with £800 rent. One earning £2k a month before tax and the other earning £1200 before tax

deductions depend on your net income. But after the work allowance 55p in the £1 is deducted from your UC.

We also get paid our wages on seperate dates mine is 3rd of the month partner is 27th would that effect our assesment period?xx

OP posts:
TeaKitten · 13/11/2023 11:55

You are probably best applying in the middle of the month, so that if you get paid early due to a bank holiday it doesn’t overlap and give you 2 wages from the same person in the same assessment period. Make sure you add the housing costs on for UC because it’s counted towards your entitlement.

Danikm151 · 13/11/2023 12:53

Your assessment period all depends on the date you apply.
A fair few working families find they are better off on UC. Good luck

Louisekelly · 13/11/2023 12:56

I get paid on the 3rd of every month.

OP posts:
Louisekelly · 13/11/2023 13:01

Partner is paid 27th any idea what date would be best to apply x

I'd try and aim for a UC payment somewhere between both your pay days, eg around the 15th.

Payment date is a month + 5 days after the date you apply, so if you apply on the 10th, your UC should be paid on 15th of each month.

As I said in my reply, middle of the month. So somewhere around the 15th

Thankyou.
