Maternity allowance confusion?

Hi, I have a question regarding maternity allowance. I can’t get my head around the amount of money I would be entitled to if I only worked 10h as an employed person during the pregnancy.
I work full time as a holiday home housekeeper, but I would like to cut down my hours to 10-15 max a week which wouldn’t get me qualified for maternity pay but maternity allowance, although I am confused what amount of money I would receive ?

You’ll get £172.48 a week or 90% of your average weekly earnings (whichever is less) for up to 39 weeks if you’re employed or have recently stopped working.

In the 66 weeks before you're due to give birth you need to have worked 13 weeks and earned at least £30/week.

When you apply you'd use the 13 weeks that you got paid the most so not the ones where you have cut your hours.

Hi Thankyou so much for your reply. I wasnt aware that I would be able to use the 13 weeks I was paid the most - I thought hmrc would calculate upon most recent payslips and work it out from there, hence why I’m a bit confused x

Hi Thankyou for your reply, I’m not understanding the £30 threshold underneath the given amount x

Are you already pregnant and if so when is your due date?

dementedpixie · 26/10/2023 20:58

@Didididi94 To qualify for MA you need to have earned at least £30 per week in any 13 weeks out of the 66 weeks before the due date. Its just the lowest amount you can earn to be eligible for MA

ok I understand now. So they would calculate upon those 13 weeks and it would either be the x amount or 90% based on those weeks.
many thanks xxx
