I have been there 42 years but am currently on Reg adjustments as my hip has gone
I am awaiting surgery but unsure how long I will be able to remain on RA
They are not being particularly understanding at the moment
No I cannot pay to go privately I am most concerned about my pension as I will be able to work elsewhere

How old are you now and what is your pension age in LGPS?

Muddle2000 · 25/10/2023 13:26

I am 60 and pension age is the same I have always paid in

I am supposed to work to 67 and if not there is quite a reduction

Best wishes with the surgery and the wait must be frustrating.

I wasn't sure what you meant about pension age - you said earlier pension age was 60 (same as your age now) but then you said "I am supposed to work til 67".

What does your pension scheme say about the age from when you can take your pension ? If it isn't clear, you need to ask them if you can take your pension at 60 and if there would be any reduction.

I think you need to check this with LGPS and/or your employer.

If you're 60 now and have worked since you were around 18 are some (most) of your years in a version of the scheme that pays at 60? I'm not sure how far public sector schemes are alike but my understanding in, for example, NHS then service prior to c2015 remained payable at 60. Only years after that are in the career average scheme.

Are occupational health involved? Do you mean reasonable adjustments? Are you in a union? Have you looked into early retirement on medical grounds - look at the conditions of your scheme.

Muddle2000 · 27/10/2023 12:20

The old 85 scheme which would have us covered has gone Ridiculous So many people over 60 get some kind of h condition and at the same time s pension is increased to 66 Early retirement is at discretion of local employer for LGPS hard these days

Yes,Book there is def a reduction if you take before the S pension age and it is substantial like 20per cent

Not what you asked, but why are you unsure that reasonable adjustments won't continue. In local government it is rare that they can't continue adjustments or redeploy when there is a health condition involved - I assume arthritis if it's your hip?

It might also be worth asking about what impact redundancy would have on your pension. In my authority they are encouraging older workers to take voluntary redundancy and part of the package is making up some extra years on the pension.

Muddle2000 · 27/10/2023 13:37

Yes Neriah RA may continue once Occ health agree to it L M also supportive Others have tried cutting hours and got nowhere though
