Named Joint Account for Bank Transfers

I've recently set up a building society savings account that I'd like to be linked to our joint bank account for making withdrawals.

When I tried to type in the name on our joint bank account (e.g. Mr A Jones and Mrs B Jones) there wasn't enough room to type in such a long name so I just put the equivalent of 'A and B Jones'. I'm now worried that transfers won't reach the account as the shortened name I put in does not match the names of the account as printed on the cheque book.

Given the transfers will be going to a joint account, am I right in thinking only one correct name needs to be specified, i.e would I be best to change the details of the named account to just Mrs B Jones?

I know that account numbers are automatically matched to the correct name when making a transfer so I'm worried that at the moment I may not be able to transfer funds out of this account.

Much appreciate any advice / experience of anyone linking a joint bank account to a savings account.

If I transfer from my account to our joint bank or the joint mortgage bank account then I just use one name. It’s always gone through fine.

You're meaning Confirmation of Payee op - the check most banks now do to ensure a sort code and account number matches the account holders name before sending a transfer.

In your instance the system will most likely flag the partial CoP match but allow the transfer. Any huge problems will be immediately apparent as the funds won't send - they won't just disappear off and not credit the beneficiary account.
