How to ask for more money

A work in a specialist area and there are two of us in our department including me. This year my colleague went down to three days a week.

I didn’t feel it at first but the last month or so I am noticing the impact of taking on their workload aswell.

Mentioned this to my husband and he said I should be asking for more money. I think he’s right.

I’ve been promoted at work before, bartered re salary for new jobs etc. but have never asked for more money.

Should I be asking for more money and if so, how should I word it please? (I think I know already but love to see others ideas).

You just say whilst you’re always happy to help the increase in work load isn’t temporary, and if they intend on you to keep covering absent roles you think you deserve to be paid more. Don’t over speak, see what they say

You can’t usually get more money for extra quantity of work, but you can if you have additional responsibilities. FWIW if you have too much to do now, a rise won’t help, you’ll just have more pressure.

Yeh rather than say that you happy to do more but want more money Id leave that else it's expected and the increase in pay will be your agreement to them allocating you your colleagues work.
I'd use the fact your the only full timer in the role and believe your worth more than your currently on.

I believe the scope of my job description has changed following xyz and think my compensation needs to be reviewed to reflect that.

I said this last year on a 1 to 1 and had a letter with a pay rise the next month.
