DLA child change of circumstances

(first post and have no idea how to work Mumsnet)
My daughter is on waiting lists for ADHD and autism, I applied for DLA back when she was 10, got accepted a few months later after she turned 11. She got MRC and LRM When I filled out the form I explain that although yes she can walk fine, she doesn't cross roads safely due to not looking etc. If she is to have a meltdown she will just turn around and walk off. She was awarded low rate mobility.
Now she has gone into secondary school she's wanting a bit more freedom and has asked to walk to school with a trusted friend. She doesn't have to cross main roads and it is a familiar route for her about 5 minutes walk time. Is this something I need to report as a change of circumstances? I've read that the criteria is 'cant walk safely on Unfamiliar routes' which she can't, but is still making her way to school on a familiar route. She doesn't do it on her own ever, and sometimes I will still walk her if she's having a particularly bad day, but she is wanted to walk with a friend now. I don't want to get in trouble!!

I think as it states ‘unfamiliar’ route I would not inform them as she still fits this criteria.

I don't think you need to.

I work in a special school and have previously had input into DLA applications.

If she cannot do it independently and safely and reliably (which is expected of her peers) then she cannot do it.

She can do it with support (her friend) which is different

Jeez, @Diddleflop, you're like a dog with a bone. Leave the OP alone!

YellowRosesWithRedTips · 30/09/2023 12:27

@Diddleflop, DLA is based on needs, not diagnosis. You don’t need a diagnosis. And, you do not need to demonstrate why the needs exist, only that DC has needs in excess of what is typically expected of peers their age.

@Rmh1107, it sounds like DD still meets the criteria for LRM. If you do want to write to DWP, you can use either “Freepost DWP DLA Child” or “Disability Benefits Centre 4, Post Handling Site B, Wolverhampton, WV99 1BY”.

@YellowRosesWithRedTips that's really helpful thankyou for that.

Hi I'm just looking for advice really, I'm looking to do a Mr for my son he has been awarded lrm he already is in recipient of hrc, I'm looking to do Mr for hrm he is diagnosed autism spectrum disorder, global developmental delay, servere receptive and expressive language difficulties, also awaiting a adhd diagnosis

He has refusal to walk episodes every day to the extant he has to use a push chair or trike we are currently in talks about a specialised buggy or wheel chair there that bad
No danger awareness
Displays servere unpredictable and disruptive behaviour to the point he can't be left alone home or school has a 1-1 through out whole school day including break and lunch as out of the blue would pinch bite or hit anyone in his proximity so has to be physically removed from the Situation.

I'm just wondering has anyone been successful with a child like mine as I'm finding it really hard to go anywhere with him.
It's just really draining not knowing weather I have a case for smi rules or vuw xx

Any help would be really appreciated
Thank you
