PIP wait times for forms

Hi
My husband is really ill and has been in hospital for months, but only got around to calling about PIP entitlement at the beginning of August. He still hasn’t had his forms through to complete- is that normal? He has very little energy so don’t want to get him to call them back again to find out what is happening unless we really have to.
Thanks

I assume that, when he spoke in August, he gave them his details like NI Number and expected them to send the PIP 2 form about how his health condition affects him. He then needs to complete that and return it.

He should have had that form reasonably soon - a week or so - after asking for it with a return date around 4 weeks from it's being requested. They've been slow recently, in part due to postal problems, and people are having to ask for extra time. However a form requested in early August should have been in his hands by the middle of the month.

Above assumes a claim under normal rules.

If he's got a terminal diagnosis, death likely in next 12 months and supported by a SR1/DS1500 form the process is different. We call those Special Rules claims and they don't need the hoop jumping/form filling as above; an award would be more or less automatic.

In that case though he should have had an award letter and the payments would have started.

Either way, he/you need to check it ASAP by calling PIP.

You need to chase up the forms asap although if he is still in hospital PIP would not be backdated to the date you make the claim, only from when he is discharged. It sounds like something has gone wrong with the forms being sent out.

Thanks for this, I will get him to call- yes he has his NI no and everything.
He had been discharged when he called but has been readmitted since.
Much appreciated.

We had a problem with my DH’s forms. When I rang up to chase it it turned out that because he had never claimed any benefits in the 40+yrs since starting work DWP still had his family home address. The details he supplied didn’t match with the DWPs so they had put him in the “to be investigated” tray. Once we had confirmed his current address ( been here for 26yrs) the form arrived within days.

Thanks for that, will get him to call straight away.
