Does anyone know the cheapest way to send a large box to Australia. Would need a courier to collect from home. Is royal mail the most expensive?

What are approx dimensions and weight?

Is speed of arrival a factor?

My advice is don't send it.

One of my sons is a geologist. After working in Burkina Faso for 5 years he relocated to Australia last year.

In the run up to Xmas I missed him dreadfully and packed a box with lots of treats lovingly wrapped. It cost me a small fortune but I decided he was worth it.I wanted him to have a taste of home and see how much he was loved and missed.

When it eventually arrived many weeks later he took a photo of what he had been presented with - everything inside the box had been completely trashed.

I was shocked and upset but he explained to me that Australia have Draconian rules about what they will allow into the country and they take no prisoners😳

It was an not entirely wasted experience because at least I learnt what happens to lovingly packed boxes from the UK - and he was touched by the gesture.

What I have done this year is put his Xmas presents on his bed and send him a photo..he will be opening them in August 2024....

Use parcelcompare - put in the country its going to plus the weight and dimensions and they give you several quotes. In my experience Parcelforce is the most expensive and I've successfully used DHL and UPS through them cheaper than buying direct. They collect from your home.

Not sent anything to Australia but to a country in the Far East with pretty strict rules. So as long as you fill in the customs forms (having checked for prohibited items) and attach them and the labels properly you should be fine.

I usually use Royal Mail with tracking. Never had any issues at all, including food items.
they have very strict bio security measures but have never experienced anything like a pp has with sending a parcel
