Hi

Please can anyone help my with calculations of what my universal credit would be for when I'm managed migrated from tax credits to universal credit?

I understand the calculations but confused as we get carers allowance which is deducted £ for £ (carers allowance is £307 for a four week month) but the carers element is £185

The criteria for a Carer Element in UC are the same as for Carers Allowance; you spend at least 35hrs a week caring for somebody who receives the care component in DLA - mid rate or above, PIP or gets AA.

The amount payable, £185.86, is broadly the same as the Carer Premium in legacy Income Support Etc. As in legacy Carers Allowance, where in payment, is deducted £/£. You can work while getting the Carer Element - there's no cut off for hours/income.

If you get CA while on UC there's no extra cash but you are credited with Class 1 NI which, can be useful in future. UC only credits Class 3 which counts for Old Age Pension only. It's paid fortnightly which some people find helps their cashflow.

Thanks for the reply

just seems harsh they will deduct £307 along with earnings and unearned income but the carers element is only £185.86

I need the carers element so they will remove the work conditions as I only get £300 per month working lunch times

Will add all the elements together and then deduct earnings, carers and unearned income

They deduct the carers allowance because you still get paid the carers allowance seperately but carers allowance and Uc are overlapping benefits. You then get the carers element on top of that.

Earnings are not just deducted pound for pound. If you have kids on your claim you get a work allowance which means that a proportion of your earnings are disregarded before deductions take place and then it is on a taper rate. If you have a disabled child you will also get a disabled child element as well as carers element, child element, rent element if you rent, standard element.

What rate and components of DLA does your child get and what is the £174 unearned income, is that a pension or something ?

Low mobility and middle care

It's to do with savings (£4.35 for every £250)

Savings are disregarded for 12 assessment periods in managed migration

There are some special rules around managed migration and the calculation of universal credit. That can include an extra element on the universal credit but you must claim before deadline to get that. Citizens Advice help to claim will be able to offer some guidance but it’s hard as a new area to them and universal credit (there were pilots but now it’s at scale)

There isn’t a maximum you can earn for the carer element on universal credit.
mid you do talk to citizens advice have award letters for the benefits that you receive. The amount of help is varying as universal credit change the calculations.
