Calculating part time pay

GlassTumbler · 05/09/2023 09:58

My current monthly take home (ie. post tax and NI) salary is £1150.00. This is for a 16 hour week.

I am considering increasing my hours to 24 per week.

How much would I then take home? And how did you calculate that/where to look for the information.

Many thanks if you can help.

Look on your payslip for your gross pay amount. Then calculate annual gross pay.
Divide that by hours per year to get hourly gross pay. Your payslip or contract may say what the hourly gross pay is, so you may not need to calculate it.

Once you know the hourly gross, you can then calculate what the weekly pay would be based on more hours, then multiply up to get annual pay.

Then use a PAYE calculator to find out the take home pay. However you will need to know hour pension is done, as that varies.

At the moment you may be on £17.88 gross. Going to 24 hours per week, your monthly take home may go up to £1546

Your payroll dept may be able to run a dummy payslip for you based on new hours.

Back calculating that to gross, it looks like you are on just under 15000 - assuming no pension and no student loan, and a typical tax free allowance.

Scaling that up would give a new salary of 22500.
And a take home (again, assuming no pension, student loan etc etc) of around 1600
