To holiday or save?!

I know I am fortunate but I’m in two minds about whether to book a foreign holiday for next year or to just save. I’ve been saving hard this last year and by end of year we should have about £6k in bank. It’s a big milestone birthday for me next year and I’m considering a holiday for around £3k for a family of 5. It just doesn’t sit well with me that that’s half my savings on a week or twos jolly… but I would also love a holiday to celebrate my birthday with my family. I don’t know why I’m struggling with the decision. A few years ago I wouldn’t have hesitated and booked the holiday but this whole cost of living crisis has made me think twice about spending! We can comfortable afford our mortgage and bills each month with no debts other than mortgage and both in secure jobs… what would you do?!!

£3k not a lot for a holiday now but seems like a lot of money for you. I think £3k savings in pretty low. I'd probably find a cheaper holiday.

This. Book a cheaper holiday and continue to build up your savings.

You don't need 3K of holiday for a good experience. When we were more skint, we went camping. Still a good experience (if the weather is not cold).

Holidays to Brittany in France don't cost too much and I think you could rent a gite for a week for £1k. You could take a further £1k to spend. Sometimes a break does you all good. I'd try to keep holiday spends down to £2k though as that would only leave you with £4k in savings.

Holiday! You're a long time dead as my DM would say!

Thanks everyone. I think I’m gonna keep saving and see where we are next year. We are lucky not to worry about bills etc as if worse case scenario I have wealthy parents who would 100% pick up the slack - I have never asked them or expected them to do so but (I’ll probably get slated for saying so) I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little bit more financially secure knowing that someone has my back
