Remortgage let to buy confusion

I feel out of my depth and need to talk to people who know something about this. I am trying to buy an apartment but to raise the funds I have had to remortgage my current place. I've managed to rent it out and the mortgage applications for both have been approved but I'm really confused about the role of the solicitors in all of this. The solicitor for the place I'm buying has been really clear from the start about what they need from me, how much it will cost etc. The remortgage solicitor, on the other hand, has been hopeless and they are causing the whole process to be delayed. I don't think I want to use them but I want to know if I can still pull out at this stage. I haven't signed anything and haven't done the ID check with them yet - so can I switch solicitor without incurring any charges? If I can't, what is it I actually need to get them to do for me because all they've done so far is send a list of crazy high charges and said they won't be able to do anything for another week at least. Is this normal? TIA.

Why do you have 2 separate solicitors? Has the remortgage solicitor been appointed by the bank?

By the lender, yes. I have two separate lenders because I have the mortgage on the property I want to buy and then a second mortgage on the property I already own.

I used the same solicitor for both mine, although lenders were different (HSBC and Skipton). So I would check with the lender of the one you dislike if there is anything that requires you to use them, and if not move both to the same. just ask the rubbish one if anycc BBC let’s have been incurred yet - they shouldn’t be doing anything for you if they haven’t done their client checks.

Oh, that's great to know - thanks for that! They haven't even done an ID check yet so it sounds like I can just walk away. Mortgage advisor said I'd need to check with the lender first to see if they were open to using another solicitor or if they were locked in to this one.
