PIP - new claim

justdoit43 · 14/08/2023 10:50

I'm new to the forum and PIP and am hoping someone can help me understand the claim process a little better

I applied for PIP in June and had a text following week to say ATOS had received my forms, but 9 weeks later i have not heard from them or had any assessment booked. Do I need to call them or chase it up, really anxious about the whole thing and had to reduce hours at work due to condition so could really do with knowing.

I know when my dad applied it took a good 16 weeks or so to see any payments but he had the whole lot backdated which was helpful.
I would give them a call and they'll be able to tell you the current waiting times and hopefully update you on what part of the process your application is in.
Good luck and I hope you don't have to wait much longer!.

justdoit43 · 14/08/2023 11:10

@fullbloom87 thank you. I'll try to give them a call.

Average wait I'd six months.. can always ring them to see if any progress.
It's very hard to get .. more get it on an appeal/ tribunal after being turned down.
Remember it's not the condition you have.. it's the help you need with having the condition.
( unless it's certain lifetime conditions).
Good luck.

@TinkerbellefromYorkshire wow 6 months.
I have sent all supporting letters from consultant etc so was hoping it would be quick 😞

Hi op I called to apply for PIP on 3 May. My phone assessment was 11 July ( I was only told about it by text on 6 July ) I was awarded on 25 July.

justdoit43 · 14/08/2023 12:28

@JimnJoyce thank you for replying that's good to know. Hopefully I should hear in the next couple of days then. I'm glad you were awarded it

My partner sent his claim back 12th July and received a message on 10th august saying they have completed paper-based assessment he will hear with a decision soon. I would phone them

justdoit43 · 14/08/2023 18:01

I received a message to say it has been passed to ATOS who carry out assessments on behalf of DWP. Do you think I need to contact ATOS or the pip helpline

justdoit43 · 14/08/2023 18:02

@Kirlou85 that was really fast, did he send lots of evidence. I hope he gets the decision x

@justdoit43 yes he sent all his hospital letters with both consultants etc

justdoit43 · 14/08/2023 18:09

@Kirlou85 thank you, I'll definitely give them a call tomorrow

Is there a link anywhere on what you have received to an online system that tells you how the claim has progressed? My experience of pip claim is outside the norm, it took about 6 weeks from application to award, which makes me think that if it was appealed the person would be eligible for more.

Kirlou85 · 14/08/2023 22:58

@TheLurpackYears my partner had messages when they received the claim and when finished the assessment there’s no other way of finding out. It’s been 4 weeks so far and just waiting on a decision

justdoit43 · 15/08/2023 09:54

There is no way to track once it has been submitted. I tried calling this morning but it an answerphone message saying if they have received it then there is no need to call to chase up status and they will be working as fast as they can. Would be nice just to have an idea of waiting time n

@justdoit43 I sent off my PIP form in July and had my assessment today - I was terrified. The assessor said they are going to send the report to the case worker at DWP and I should get an outcome within 8 weeks.

I hope you get your assessment soon and it's over and done with soon. It's all very stressful - sending virtual hugs

mumsofdragons · 20/09/2023 00:10

@justdoit43 any update, did you have your assessment?

brighterstarer · 20/09/2023 07:20

@mumsofdragons yes I had my assessment beginning of September and got a call a week later to say i have been awarded, although only standard for living and nothing for mobility , I feel I should have enhanced living. I received back payment yesterday. Are you waiting still?

Hi I am new to this post and PIP, I applied in July and have my telephone assessment tomorrow and I’m so nervous about it, I applied for PIP due to my mental health deteriorating since finding out I have the BRCA 1 mutation and will have to have a mastectomy and hysterectomy. My anxiety and depression are at an all time high and I’m struggling to do day to day duties, I have 3 children at home and my husband has become my carer overnight. I don’t have any motivation to do anything my husband helps me with everything and as embarrassing as it is to say I have become “incontinent” and have accidents most nights. I would like to know if anyone here is/has been awarded for mental health and if so how did the telephone assessment go as I really am so worried about it TIA

Do you know why you have become incontinent? If not your GP needs to know this urgently- you could be diabetic, have nerve damage etc.

SquirrelSoShiny · 21/09/2023 11:22

Also are you getting support with your mental health? E.g. CBT can be very helpful for health anxiety - you're facing a lot of scary medical stuff so it's understandable but CBT can potentially improve your mental health really quickly and make you feel more hopeful and your anxiety more manageable Flowers

SquirrelSoShiny · 21/09/2023 11:23

(That is all aside from your interview but good luck with it!)

pleasehelp23 · 21/09/2023 11:26

Thank you for your comment, I don’t think it’s incontinence as such I don’t know how to describe it I have bad dreams and wake up crying and have wet myself. I’m the day when I have to drop the kids to school I come over really hot and scared and I wet myself. I do have type 2 diabetes and my doctor is aware of the situation thank you

Many people do. PIP is not a means tested benefit it is to help people cope with the additional costs disability brings.
