Critical illness claim

Not sure I've posted in the right section but here goes.

Recently DH was diagnosed with MS. Today I went to call the life insurance company to tell them and found that we actually have critical illness cover that covers MS. I've put the claim in but then read so many stories online about refusals to pay out for MS due to previous visits to the GP that people had no idea were important.

Now I've gone from feeling like our future is financially sound to being convinced the claim will be rejected...all in a day. Do insurance companies ever pay out for MS? DH never visited the GP so no worries there, but he did get RSI (computer coder) which he mentioned to his consultant so I'm worried that might be the reason for rejection. The problem with MS is that it's so difficult to be definitive about anything.

I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that they do sometimes pay out!

Yes they pay out for MS, as long as it meets the criteria and your husband answered all the medical questions truthfully on the application.

I have MS. I was paid out from my claim.

Thanks both for the reassurance. We did the questions verbally through a broker - all answered truthfully, but so many horror stories online about refusals due to a random migraine 20 years ago etc.

I work for an insurer (and medically underwrite and review claims ) , we have one of the highest claims payouts in the industry.
However the problem with MS is that it’s symptoms are very innoculous and not definite when they first present themselves and people often present to their gp with a range of related symptoms with a large variation of time beforehand.
We at claims know this is how the conditions present and therefore we ask an application specifically related to this.
As long as you answered the applications questions truthfully then you will be fine … but insurers specifically ask have you EVER had symptoms of pins and needles , blurred double vision, numbness , a range of vague neurological symptoms basically…. We don’t ask if you felt if it was serious or important in your opinion etc just if you have EVER experienced it.
