CAB form-filling service

Hello

I have a friend whom I think might be eligible for Disability Living Allowance, but filling out forms is not her strong point. She's been turned down a couple of times, I think, but I suspect that's because she hasn't put her case strongly enough.

I'm going to offer to have another go for her, but from what I can work out the form is a bit of a nightmare. Someone has recommended the CAB form-filling 'by phone' service, but my friend is adamant that the CAB told her that they can't do it for her. Does anyone know what this service is, and whether it still exists?

Many thanks to anyone with advice!

There are other people who can help her fill it out. There may be a welfare rights officer in her area or a disability rights group etc. Its worth getting someone to do it who has experience and knows how to fill the forms. There are guides to filling these forms aswell. www.bhas.org.uk/freeguides/dla-adults-physicalgrounds.pdf

Oh, thank you stary. V good idea. Would Welfare Rights Officer be a LA person? Where might I find them?

She actually has both physical and mental health grounds, and it does sound like it's a mountainous form.

Thanks again.

She should definitely be able to get help from her local CAB with this - I work at a CAB and we help people with these all the time. Our bureau does not provide a phone service for this, but offers people two hour appointments at the bureau to help them complete the form.

If she really can't find anyone to help, then the BHAS guides are very good at guiding you through the possible pitfalls etc.

Also - if her claim is unsuccessful, she does have the right to ask for the decision to be looked at again and also to appeal to an independent tribunal(again a CAB should be able to help her with this)

good luck!
