Last will and testament - valid in Europe?

DH and I recently moved to Europe from Scotland with our son. We (v. bad of us) never got around to making out a will, but do feel that it is important to make one out. Problems is, we have assets in the UK (house, savings) and in the USA (some investments) although dh's salary is currently paid here in Europe where we are currently renting. Is a British/Scottish Will valid in Europe?

We really do not know where to start (should I just fill out one of those online ones until we are able to have a proper meeting with a solicitor?)

Any info or experience of a similar situation would be gladly received!

Wills will vary from country to country so you would most likely need a will to cover wherever you have assets - so that would be a US will for those investments (taking into consideration all the tax implications obviously). You might want to draw up a letter of wishes or guardianship for your child's care should anything happen to you or DH. I would definitely take advice on this as just one meeting will easily lay it all out and the last thing you need is to have an invalid will or be considered intestate.
