Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could advise me on whether or not my upcoming change in living arrangements will affect my universal credit payments.

I currently rent a house, just my 14 month old daughter and I but will be moving in with my boyfriend in January. I currently claim UC to help me towards nursery fees and would like to know if I will still receive these benefits once I move in with my boyfriend.

Please note, my boyfriend is not my daughters biological dad however I am unsure whether UC will assume that because we are living together he is paying towards her and I am no longer a single parent.

You will be assumed to be a couple if you're moving in. His earnings will be taken into account.

You will have to change your claim to a joint claim and his earnings will be taken into consideration. You can do a manual calculation here to see what you would get https://www.uceplus.co.uk/how-much-will-my-payment-be

Why wouldn’t the income of your partner be taken into consideration? Your household income will increase. You will also lose things like the single persons council tax credit.

Yes they will expect him to support the household doesn't he expect to support the household? You can't have a single claim and live with your boyfriend your not single

You would need to make the Uc claim into a joint claim as soon as you move in together. Your single standard element will become a couples element. His earnings will reduce your UC. All elements ( your total including childcare) are subject to deductions for earnings. You may find with 2 lots of earnings and only one child on the claim you may no longer qualify but it does depend obviously on your total Uc, earnings and joint savings.

His income will definitely affect your claim. However, if he pulling the weight in your household you may be better off.

Hi

they will say you have a joint income…and maybe deduct both incomes instead of yours , try and use benefit calculator. You will also loose the housing element of UC.

hope this helps x
