Nhs sick pay and SSP

I'm aware NHS sickness policy is 6months full pay then 6 months half pay.
Does anyone know if statutory sick pay accompanies this?
Would you also get SSP when being paid half? Or not get it at all?
Confused with it all!

Surely the SSP is part of the 50% pay, it’s not in addition to it

No, you wouldn't get SSP if being paid 50% pay.

SSP comes in instead of pay - which your employer also has to pay.

Normally I'd expect the employer, in this case NHS, to pay SSP and top it up to match contractual pay. I'm sure that's what happened to me when, as a Civil Servant, I was off for 7 weeks with a broken hip. After SSP ends - 28 weeks of sick absence - they'll pay you half or full pay according to your contractual conditions.

An oddity here is that once SSP ends the employee can claim New Style (ie NI Cont Based) Employment Support Allowance. A bit over £80/week and subject to tax it's not a king's ransom but it'll keep you in beer ;-0

If you're getting SSP it'll show on your payslip.
