Uncollected direct debit

I have received the following email from my pet insurance provider regarding my policy.

We've been unable to collect your insurance premium since 02/11/2022 due to a problem with your direct debit mandate.

The outstanding premium on your policy is £274.32.

Right now your policy is still active, and we'll be restarting your collections soon.

It's important to bring your payments up to date before your renewal date or we will not be able to renew your policy. Your policy is due to renew on 02/11/2023 and we will attempt to collect £274.32 on this date.
If you want pay the outstanding premium amount sooner or spilt the amount over your remaining collections please give us a ring

Unfortunately DP insisted upon having this DD taken from his personal account and hasn’t noticed it hadn’t been collected 🙄. I’m wondering where we stand with this? I’ve checked the mandate we got sent at the time and everything looks as it should be. I’m a bit annoyed that it’s taken them 8 months to bring it to my attention

I’d be annoyed at your husband for not noticing too. What do you mean by where do you stand? If you phone they will probably let you pay it immediately if you don’t want to wait until November.

He says I never trust him with money and this is exactly why! Sorry I should have said what I meant rather than thinking everyone was mind readers. I am pre-empting him suggesting he just cancels the policy and starts a fresh with another company. This wouldn’t sit right with me especially if we would start getting debt collection letters so I want to know where we’d stand so that I can be armed with that information if he suggests that

If you cancel or the company does, the default nay be noted on the insurance database and prevent you getting cover in future.

Thanks, that’ll be enough to scare him in to paying!

Managed to get through to them on the phone and as the error was on their side they’ve offered to cancel the policy free of charge and set up a new one. Lucky escape for DP!!!

my only worry is the waiting times - you’re not covered for the first 14 days essentially
