Trying to find a bank account with "pots" or "jars" to support a young person with budgeting. Any recommendations?

Thanks

I have 10 pots with my Barclays account and I’ve named them Christmas, holidays etc.

Zippea · 29/06/2023 15:39

Chase allow you to do this - I have pots galore!

flummingbird · 29/06/2023 15:41

I have them with Starling, all online too.

Garrie · 29/06/2023 15:42

Monzo is brilliant for young people, easy to use pots and very user friendly.

I've got a link for a £5 each if anyone wants it

Starling. So easy to use, you can split incoming money into pots, have regular transfers set up and have virtual cards for pots so can make payments direct from a pot and also allocate Direct Debits to be taken from a certain pot. I'm a single parent so all this makes it so much easier for me to manage my money. I have different pots for home bills, food, my tax bill, Christmas, holidays, car insurance, kids stuff, my stuff, etc

How do you do this with barclays? I would love to know I bank with them

StiffyBin · 29/06/2023 21:52

Sorry to piggy back, op, but does anyone know an account that has pots but won’t bounce a payment just because the money is in the wrong pot? Flexi-pots, basically.

Toooldtoworry · 29/06/2023 21:54

Pretty sure you can set bills up from different pots with Starling

Songlines · 29/06/2023 21:58

Another vote for Starling. I can have up to 5 virtual cards each linked to a separate savings pot so, for instance, I can pay for car expenses directly from the car expenses pot using that particular virtual card without having to remember to move it back into the main account. It has really helped with budgeting.

Hyperjar- that's exactly what it's designed for!

Agree and they pay interest

Blingstar · 29/06/2023 22:15

I second Monzo.

And use Hyperjar for my young child. Don't understand why people pay to use go Henry

Pearlyb · 29/06/2023 22:26

I use Monzo as well. As a bonus the exchange rate is good when using the card abroad (plus you get free withdrawals abroad up to a limit).

I have a referral code - https://join.monzo.com/c/tkbg8qv

If you use it you'll get £5 credit when signing up X

Chase; with the added benefit of 3.8% interest on the pots, 1% interest in the current account (I think??) and 1% cashback on all spending.

keel34 · 30/06/2023 08:51

Can also use abroad without fees.

fredafroggle · 30/06/2023 12:07

Thank you all, we'll take a look

just checked them out - very unimpressed with their attitude to customer communication - one thing to nudge folk to dealing with most things online but they seem to make it very hard to speak to them to ask simple decent questions. Classic press this press that then "goodbye" and hang up - not even a person hanging up - a robot.

Lloyds

SilentHedges · 01/07/2023 08:10

I bank with Santander and have 5. Easy to set up and transfer to. My main account for fixed bills, one that is purely my spending money, another 3 for various annual costs.

ScandiNoirNuit · 02/07/2023 19:51

@SilentHedges I haven’t seen this in Santander, how do you set up? I was actually thinking of ditching them forMonzo or Starling for this feature!

I'll have to log in from my laptop to tell you how, but its easy (I'm not very techy!) and I title them stuff like "car" "bikes" "TV license/house insurance". I'll come back to this thread when I next log on from my laptop with a "how to". Or call customer services and they'll explain.

It's a pain to change bank accounts.

ASGIRC · 03/07/2023 04:00

Revolut.
And the vaults have interest on them, so leaving the money there means more money each day!
Im on Revolut metal (the most premium option on Revolut) now, and the interest rate is currently 3.44%.

honeyandfizz · 03/07/2023 06:31

I have mine with TSB. I like the ease of their app and that they have branches you can actually use rather than a fully online account. I find it far easier to manage my money this way but for some reason hate to see so little in my current account and panic a little once it has all been divided 😟

Maraudingmarauders · 03/07/2023 06:35

Another vote for Starling, I got an account for a big holiday last year and used the pots for separating hotel, travel, food etc budgets. Plus a great rate abroad with no fees. I loved how easy it was, and the automatic update of what you are spending (and the UK cost immediately pops up despite paying in euros).
Very easy to set up too.

dizzygirl1 · 03/07/2023 06:38

Chase is brilliant 1% cashback on spending and 3+%(keeps going up) on the savings so all of my pots are increasing via interest too.
Really easy to use.
I also have starling which I used to think was amazing but chase wins for me for tb interest and cashback
