Children's bank accounts or apps

Can anyone recommend a good bank account for children? They seem so hard to find! Our youngest is 7, and we'd like to open an account for each of them so they can learn how money works, about saving, etc.

Or maybe there are apps like this?

I tried to do this for both my DDs and as far as I'm aware they can't have their own account until they're 11 so I just have savings accounts for them in my name and stick all their money in there! Would a piggy work and you can just open and count it every now and then and see what that could buy etc.

Yes, that's what I'm finding, that they're savings accounts, if they're available at all.

They have piggy banks but are constantly emptying them to buy sweets.

You will only find child savings accounts for that age. Current accounts are for age 11+

DD is 9 and has a Starling kite account which is linked to my Starling account. Anyone can pay money in eg birthdays and she has her own card (with daily limit) for shopping. I get a notification every time she buys something and we check her balance together on the app. Definitely worth £2 a month.

I second the starling kite account.

I recommend Revolut, it's free to use for the basic package. They get a debit card that they can use and they can only spend what you put in there.

There is a one off fee for the child card, around £5. I have used this with DD for several years now. There is an app on my phone, her phone. I can transfer money instantly to her card. She has also linked it to apple pay now that she is older.

When she turned 13 I opened a Santander 123 junior account for her which gives you a debit card. She is 15 now, but still uses both Santander and Revolut.

Revolut

Just the other week set up DS who is 7 a Hyper jar account, its completely free and you have an app and so do they -it's not a bank account as such but a preloaded debit card, you can pay into it via apple pay and DS has already set up 'jars' for Lego and holidays and enjoys moving his money between them (he has £20 in there) they get a card with their name on and a pin number etc too. Have a look into it and if you decide to go ahead DM me and I'll refer you and I think the kids each get a reward

Hyper Jar sounds great, but our kids don't have phones yet.

Will look into Revolut.

@GrouchyKiwi DS doesn't have his own phone either, I just have the app on mine and he asks to look at it now and again
