hi,

after a stressful weekend with in-laws (one is terminally ill), we got home and found out we have been burgled.

we have two locks on the door, the bottom one is the mortice. now, we cant remember if we locked both or not (we left very early in the morning, and we have a small baby, so barely can remember what i was dressing tbh!). we could only see signs of forced entry on the top lock.

will the loss adjuster make a fuss and not give us the claim? its not that much money, around 2000 pounds, but its a lot for us IYWIM.

what you think?

Only if it states on your policy that you must use the mortice locks when leaving the house.

hercules1 · 22/02/2008 19:59

You would normally be told that when taking out the policy and it should be on your details rather than having to search through your policy booklet.

TheBlonde · 22/02/2008 19:59

they may not even send a loss adjuster

jabuti · 22/02/2008 20:12

i dont have the booklet anymore!

they are sending a loss adjuster. seems a bit cruel to have to remember if you locked both locks?

i do remember them asking if we had keys to lock the windows, and if we had a 5 liver door lock. which we do, but its the one that i cant remember if we locked or not

You dont need the booklet. You should have a schedule that has your payment and details on it.

kd73 · 22/02/2008 20:16

I would suggest tell the adjuster the truth in that you can't honestly remember.

Even little white lies (with the best intentions) can come back to bite you!

jabuti · 22/02/2008 20:19

im definitely telling the truth, im just trying to figure out what he/she will determine.

we have the policy stating how much is covered, etc... it just wont go in details such as my situation.

endorsements - that's what I was trying to say. If it has to be locked it will be down as an endorsement under an endorsement section.

kd73 · 22/02/2008 20:26

Jabuti, sorry I didn't mean to imply anything by my earlier posting.

When is your appointment and which company?

jabuti · 22/02/2008 20:28

ah, i see hercules! i dont see anything like that.

i didnt take it wrongly kd

sometime next week he/she will come, they are calling us on monday to let us know.

OP posts:
jabuti · 22/02/2008 20:34
