I think this is ok?

Hi,

dh and I both get paid at end of month - 26th and 28th, so we have about 21 days until we get some more money.

dh has been a bit stressy over the weekend. We have spent a lot of money of the garden ( new fences etc) and we have had to use some of our wages.

All of our bills are paid for the month, however we will have to buy food and car fuel - we usually spend about £200 per month on petrol diesel.

Just checked our banks and between us we have £1550 to last until paydays. I think that this is fine but dh thinks that it's going to be tight???

Are you having a laugh?

AnOKYearForTheRoses · 05/06/2023 13:41

If you spend £200 a month on petrol and food, why would having £1,500 be a problem?

Am I missing something or had the frequency of these types of post just shot up?

TeaKitten · 05/06/2023 13:41

You’ve got over £1330 to last until pay day after fuel, I don’t think you actually need mumsnet you reassure you that this is ok. That’s over £440 a week for food and fun for the next few weeks… you will survive.

CuriousGeorge80 · 05/06/2023 13:42

Why would there possibly be an issue OP?

EmpressMoo · 05/06/2023 13:47

That is plenty but it depends how much you usually spend.

Yes, it will be "tight" if you are both buying a meal deal for lunch everyday and Starbucks on your break, getting takeaways when you can't be bothered to cook, going out for dinner every weekend, can normally buy things you want without thinking about whether you can afford it...

Hugasauras · 05/06/2023 13:49

Do you usually spend more than £1300 a month on food?

GrazingSheep · 05/06/2023 13:56

Do you save ant money or do you spend all your wages every month?

nxa · 05/06/2023 14:03

Well done, OP. Congratulations on being extremely comfortable. Doing much better than a lot of the people on this site.

Is that what you wanted to hear?

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 05/06/2023 14:04

I knew before I even clicked on this thread title that it was going to be one of these stupid posts where someone who has ample cash is going to ask if they've got enough to survive on.

No, OP. You're not going to be ok. You're not OK if you cannot see that £1500 is sufficient to cover £200 petrol and food and any other costs that might arise in the next 21 days. I'd spend some of that money on a basic maths course.

Pixiedust1234 · 05/06/2023 14:06

The mind boggles. What kind of food do you eat, goose pate and caviar?

NoSquirrels · 05/06/2023 14:08

Why does your DH think it’s a problem? (Because clearly it’s not anywhere near a problem and you shouldn’t need to double-check with us!)

BillyNoM8s · 05/06/2023 14:09

Well how much do you usually spend on food? If its over £1300 in 21 days then you better prepare to starve.

SlashBeef · 05/06/2023 14:09

Christ..

Even so, they'd really have to be going some to run out of money on that amount spare after all bills paid and only food and fuel that they need to buy for the next three weeks.

You just have to try really hard to avoid accidentally booking a holiday, buying a new car, or more new fences and you might just make it to the end of the month.

Scont · 05/06/2023 14:12

It's more than some total household incomes so I suspect you'll be fine (may have to go easy on the champagne and caviar) Biscuit

CaptinKitty · 05/06/2023 14:12

Sounds similar to me and my husband, after all our bills go out, we are usually left with around £1800 a month leftover for food/petrol/general spending.

He always thinks I’m mad for thinking it may be tight, but I’m admittedly a much more of a loose spender than he is. In my head, if I add up all the ‘nice’ things I like to spend money on (lunches/dinners out/big food shops/bits for the house/deliveroo etc), it adds up very quickly in my head.

It still makes me nervous, but i fully admit this is a ‘me’ issue and we are actually very privileged. Could he be similar?

RunningFromInsanity · 05/06/2023 14:14

LOL your ‘going to be tight’ left overs is my FT monthly wage 😂

It depends on what outgoings you have between now and payday…
Surely you are best placed to know this than a gang of complete strangers on the Internet!
🤣🤣🤣

LividTwunt · 05/06/2023 14:16

That’s funny. I’m on £230 until 1st July (me and toddler) and thought I was doing okay…

But wouldn't you just get a couple less Deliveroos and maybe use up the food you have in, maybe take a packed lunch to work a few days if you were at all concerned?

It's such a non problem. Its not like you can't afford to put fuel in the car to get to work, or are worrying about the electricity meter running out and not being able to afford to top up....

massivesalads · 05/06/2023 14:19

Oh you poor love 💐

Have you checked to see if you can be referred for food bank vouchers?

Or perhaps shop at Asda this month instead of Waitrose? (I understand this could be extremely upsetting)

It most probably isn’t though. It’s most likely just a clown, I don’t believe a word of it.

LeroyJenkinssss · 05/06/2023 14:57

Hmmm. Do I think it’ll be tight even when I can realise that this likely lots of peoples take home pay before paying bill? Such a tough one…

Onegingerhead · 05/06/2023 15:51

Are you worried you may need to buy more fences before the 26th OP?😀
