How much did you pay for a will and POA?

Just that really?

If you have applied for POA for health and welfare how much did it cost you.

and same question for a straightforward will (want it checked and not just file a home done version)

TIA

You can do POA forms yourself. I speak to quite a few people ( as part of my job ) who have done POA. Prices vary form one elderly man who was charged £600 to much less. We as an organization usually recommend a place in our local town who does a single POA for around £95. Sorry no idea on wills, I guess some solicitors may do them both as a package or at a discount.

Remember to add on the cost of registering the POA. I think it can add up!

LittleOwl153 · 29/05/2023 19:29

POA you can do yourself. Easily. And you need to keep it simple otherwise banks etc won't accept it anyway for financial. Registering it was £69... but I'm sure it's gone up.

Wills will depend on what you need. Think my mum paid about £200, DH has just done his through his union at work if something like rhat I'd available to you that was very cheap (but only covered simple!)

POA I did this myself & paid the 2 prices on the above

Will I paid about £300 about 10 years ago, but I need a new one at the end of this year

Make, register or end a lasting power of attorney

How to make a lasting power of attorney (LPA): starting an application online, choosing an attorney, certifying a copy, changing an LPA.

We've did a LPA for my dad this year and it was about £160 for both. Not sure about a will as we did his ourselves (really straightforward will)but I imagine it will vary a lot between solicitors and hiw complicated the will is?

Stepbystep100 · 29/05/2023 19:38

Used a will writer and relatively simple mirror wills 120 each.

Lpas 110 each plus 82 fees.

So total for our 2 wills and 4 lpas = 680 to the will writer and 328 to OPG

Just in case anyone is in Scotland you can't do LPA yourself, you have to get a solicitor.

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 29/05/2023 19:53

My company offered free wills (funeral arranger) so paid nothing for that.

The will company offered to do LPAs too and I just went with it as needed them. I should have done some research as I think they way overcharged to claw back the money for the free will. Paid £480 for the two LPAs, plus the cost to register them. I could have got them much cheaper elsewhere, or done them myself.

You can fill in the forms yourself and register the POA.
If you're on pension credit it's free.
