Following my previous post, I wanted to thank those who had posted positively.

I advertised myself on a local Facebook group for babysitting.

A lady booked me 6.30-12.30 at £10 an hour on Saturday night and has booked me again for next Saturday.

I’ve also responded to an ironing post. It’ll be interesting to see how this works out. I have a smart electricity metre and always notice it go up when I do my own ironing… I’ve suggested £6 for a blue ikea bag so a lady is bringing two over tomorrow.

My daughter and I went to a boot sale today. We picked up a pair of diesel jeans for £3 and 2 monsoon dresses for £2 each that we are going to sell on on Vinted. We also picked up a few Lego bags (assumed complete) for £2 each that my daughter is going to build (for entertainment) and sell on if they are complete (or we can find matching pieces from our stash).

My daughter has also offered dog walking to my neighbour. She has offered half an hour for two pounds. Not a lot but she’ll enjoy it and it gives her some experience.

I think you have seriously underestimated the ironing costs.
An ikea bag can hold A LOT of clothes.

The babysitting sounds good.
Be interested in the boot-sale /vinted thing works. If you see the carboot as a fun half day out, could be ok. It would be a chore for me!!

OP, I read your previous thread. With respect, as much as I commend your efforts, these extra pieces of work won't resolve your problems.

And £6 for an IKEA bag of clothes - that will take you at least 1.5 hours, maybe 2. Madness.

I find myself addressing similar challenges but as a single parent with limited support so I do sympathise.

But you need to do something more radical than this (as I'm having to).

I thought I might have underestimated! Oh well! It’s half term this week so as long as it doesn’t cost me more in electricity than I mane then I’m still wining.

I kind of estimated £4 in electricity (feeling like I’d over estimated). That’s still £8 profit- no matter how long it takes me! It will be a good benchmark for future work if I want to peruse it.

I’m feeling good. I have £60 cash in my purse from Saturday night that I wasn’t expecting in my budget. I also do my shopping on a Sunday (I have to do it then because of work commitments). As this week is half term, I’m thinking I can eek it out until Wednesday or Thursday (using cupboard and freezer stuff). That will make the following week easier.

I also signed up to Olio. I’ve not got anything from there yet but a few walk outs this week (when I can) might mean I don’t need to do a shop at all this week!

I thank the people who responded positively and with hope

I thank those who spoke frankly but politely on my previous post.

To those that implied I was lying, or accused me of idiocy (without constructive input) I question your own motives for ‘kicking someone when they are down’, shame on you.

Anyhow, for the first two profile types, you’ve given me the motivation to…

A) look into long term solutions such as relocation (down sizing is not really an option where we are. Private rental would cost more than our current mortgage and buying a smaller house wouldn’t save us much at all (after fees etc). I’m looking at areas in Wales. Although I’m not a Welsh speaker (they tend to look for this for teaching jobs) everything else is perfect!

B). We can’t make a move on A until the end of July due to my workload during term time. Sidelines will help me not to fall below 0 before then, I know it’s a slippery slope once you do.

Anticipating the absolute a** I got on the last post, I have read my post back and can see my SPaG mistakes before I’m accused of being an uneducated troll. I wrote this out quickly with a degree of autocorrect and another of haste. I’m trying to move on with my life and wanted to thank those who had offered the support at the exact moment I needed it.

The support I was offered has made the difference (despite the awful people that very nearly made me self sabotage).

Have you looked at signing up to Prolific where you can earn about £10 per hour for doing online surveys. And there are other similar sites too - search for the old £10per day threads.

I’ve signed up to a load of these but not this one. Thank you.

Hi. I think you could bump up to at least £16. An ironing service company in my area (who knew?!) charges £25 per binbag (max. 6 kg) of ironing. Maybe have a look at some websites in your area and follow those rates.
Good luck.

Well done on your progress OP. I bet it feels really good, doesn't it?

AliceMcK · 29/05/2023 01:05

Great news op, I also read your other post.

Could you look at cleaning during the summer holidays. I know where I live there are a few cleaning ladies always looking for help on our community fb pages, or you could just do it alone or even with your DD. I come from a long line of cleaning ladies and remember my grans throwing me a few pence when I went on jobs with them. Had my own cleaning job at 15 for extra money.

@headaches80

This is mn people get nasty over flowers 😂
I report on my threads when I can be bothered and try and to ignore. Personally I think tutoring, look into what local colleges want because they had the tutor fund.
