LGPS pension question

JellySaurus · 17/05/2023 21:55

I'm moving jobs from an academy trust in one LA to a different academy trust in a another LA. I can't figure out from the LGPS website whether this affects me. Any advice? Or a link to the relevant page? Thanks

You need to ask your specific LGPS, are you employed under NJC terms?

A link to the 'relevant page' depends on the LGPS area you're in.

From memory the statute that applies is the Redundancy Payments (Modification) Order 1999.

Google it or ask your employer, union or specific pension fund body.

To ensure there is no break in your pensionable service, make sure your leaving date from your existing employer is the day before the start date of your new employer (ie Sunday 14th and Monday 15th).

Once in post you will be able to access the relevant LGPS portal and fill in the forms to transfer your pension, if required.

I don't think that is quite right @JamMakingWannaBe . NJC terms allow a one week, seven consecutive days, break in service under the definition of continuous employment.

Make sure that when you join your new LGPS fund that you complete any forms to notify them of your pension with the first fund (they won’t be told automatically). The new fund will then write to you with your options for aggregating (joining together) your benefits. This will happen automatically if you do nothing but you will have the option to keep them separate if you want - read the notes that you’re sent to help you decide what’s best to do.

Thanks for clarifying.
