NHS mat pay at 8c

Morning everyone. I'm trying to work out how much mat pay I'll get. Long term nhs employee currently at bottom of 8c and I've used the 'maternity money' calculator but this doesn't seem to add SMP
Mortgage repayments are high! I'm worried about it and wondering if anyone has been in this position and can share how much they got?
Thank you for any help you can give!

NHS occupational maternity pay:

8 weeks' full pay, less any Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) or Maternity Allowance (MA)
18 weeks' half pay plus any SMP or MA (providing the total does not exceed full pay)
13 weeks' SMP or MA
13 weeks’ unpaid leave.

So for the first 8 weeks you'll be on full pay, then you'll see the drop.

You can ask for them to work out your pay over the whole period and average it.

Which country are you in? Rates differ.

Payroll will give you a forecast closer to your due date

Divide your annual salary by 52. You get that for 8 weeks.

Halve it and add 172.48 and you get that for 18 weeks.

You get 172.48 for the last 13 weeks.

If you’re taking the year add all the numbers up and stick it into Listen to taxman and it will give you an approximate net amount.

You're right it's a high grade but I tried various ways and was struggling... think it was 8 weeks rather than two full months that wasn't computing
No one's perfect right ;)
Thanks all!

I'm NHS but different position to you. For my second stint of mat leave I opted to average out the pay over my time off and found that much better for budgeting

BarbaraofSeville · 14/05/2023 09:07

Don't forget you can still use your annual leave allowance and BHs on top of your maternity leave, which is a few weeks paid time off. So you could use this to reduce the amount of unpaid leave you take, while still being off work.

Also, due to the way tax works, your income won't drop as much as you'd expect, as the portion of your gross salary that you're losing is taxed at 40%, plus NI, possibly student loan and a higher percentage of pension contributions. You would also have the option of some KIT days, which are paid. Plus you might see some reduced costs if you're not paying for commuting, lunches etc.

Anyone any ideas for a band 3 top? Take home pay if take 12 months off?

Summersizzle · 17/06/2023 17:34

Hi,

I had mat leave as an 8d and was surprised at how much I got in mat pay as your tax and pension reduces due to the lower income. It was a significant drop but not as bad as I'd thought.
