Didn't get letters re: £2 car park PCN = CCJ!

There's more to this, of course.

Last year, my husband and I moved with our children to a different UK city. In December, I arranged for a Christmas event with our little ones. We were late and rushed in, forgetting to pay the £2 parking - our fault. We've been to the same venue about 8 times since and have never forgotten to pay.

However, because my husband forgot to change the address on our car we started receiving PCN notices, and then letters from a law firm, and then from a county court - all to our previous address! Suffice it to say, my husband now has a CCJ!

We recently went back to our old address because we were in town and, well, you can imagine how shocked and angry I have been about all this as the judgement was just made a week ago and I rang the law firm and paid off the debt immediately.

I have been trying to call the county court every day, but it just rings off the hook and then the call just dies as though someone doesn't want to answer and ends the call.

Can someone please tell me how to have the CCJ removed from my husband's name or his name from the register? I read online that a N244(?) needs to be completed and sent in, but I don't understand all the 'legalese'.

The debt has been paid within a month. How can I apply to have it removed as soon as possible? If anyone can explain the steps and what to expect I would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance.

If the debt was in your DHs name alone then first he needs to write to the court with confirmation that the debt is paid. He'll need to include proof of payment.

Once he's done this he can then apply for a certificate of cancellation from the court which confirms the CCJ was paid within 1 month, by completing form N443 and sending it to the court. There's a £14 charge for this.

Once the court is satisfied that the debt has been paid, they'll arrange for the entry to be removed from the register and the credit reference agencies will be informed so they can remove the details from your DHs credit report.

He will also need to pay the associated fine for not changing the details on your car registration and that can be quiet hefty www.gov.uk/change-address-v5c

No he won’t unless he has actually been issued a fine.

He can update the address to the correct one now and almost certainly nothing will happen.

Might be worth putting a mail redirect on for a few months.
Catching post that you haven't yet changed addresses for can be useful, especially if the new occupants of your house won't forward things for you.

In my work we have issued CCJ's and if the debt is paid within 30 days of being issued along with he relevant court fee's we can update the court that issued the CCJ to have it removed. You need to contact the company and ask them if this has been done, the court are unable to do anything until they have been given the info from the Company.

Absolutely will do - thank you. This whole situation has been a huge lesson and the cause of no end of stress these past couple of weeks.

I'll do that, thank you.
