Selling stuff and tax: a bit of a grey area.

I have the impression that if you sell your belongings on ebay (ie you are not either making stuff purely to sell it or buying in stuff to sell) it doesn't count as income for tax purposes - does anyone have a clearer understanding of this?
Basically I am selling off magazines on ebay: I am not a dealer but have always been a hoarder so there are quite a lot of them (and I am desperately broke otherwise probably wouldn't be selling them), but want to be sure about the income thing.

As long as you purchased the goods yourself and sell them for less than the original price - ie you dont make a profit then there is no reason to worry re tax. If your on benefits and they see the paypal amount you'll need some paperwork to back up that your not running a business as they may query it.

Its when you are making a profit or buying goods purely to sell that you have to inform the tax people.
