Sending a present to the EU

Can anyone tell me, if you send a small present, under £40, to the EU (Tenerife, Spain), will the recipient have to pay taxes / charges?
I tried to find something on Amazon, but you need to have the recipient's ID number to proceed.
What is the easiest / cheapest way to send a gift?

Are you buying from Amazon.es? That surely doesn't attract taxes?

There’s no real way, unless you can buy from a shop that shops directly to from an EU location. M&S does this, Asda- George, new look…. Lots have international sites for you to order off.
Amazon.es…. We’ve also had success with U.K. Amazon that has international shipping, my family were subject to tax at the other end.
sending through the post normally, ie Hermes, Royal Mail etc… not worth it and huge costs at the other end.

My family WEREN’T subject it should read with Amazon.

I've been charged a ridiculous amount for everything my family have sent to Spain (despite repeated polite reminders not to send anything!)

As others have said, best to use an EU-base store.

General advice seems to be "just don't" which is really sad 😢

Thanks all. It is really sad, isn’t it. Ridiculous 😬
