No claims bonus basically can I count the year just ending?

My insurance is just coming up for renewal and I am a bit confused about no claims bonus. I had a claim during the previous insurance year, so when my current deal ends at the beginning of May in my mind that will be one year of no claims? But if I go to renew it today for that start date I haven't got a full year if you see what I mean? So do I wait for the very last day of my insurance and then I can say I have got 1 year no claims?

Not sure if you mean claim was in last year but it means you have no bonus if it was

it will say on your renewal paperwork what no claim bonus they will honour for your renewal- use this figure when comparing.

When you get the quote, if you are starting one when the other finishes (so there is no break) then you count that as a full year of no claims. So you kind of forward date it.

If you end up having to make a claim in the next few weeks though you need to remember to let the new company know

Check your renewal paperwork or ring your current insurers and ask how many year No Claims Bonus you'll have at the end of the current policy. You may have a lot more than 1 years, for example if your no claims bonus was protected at the time of the accident.
You can then get a quote based on how many years you will have when the current policy ends.
