Octopus Money Coach

I heard about this job recently and it sounded really interesting. I'm thinking about transitioning into semi retirement from my almost full time well paid but stressful job, and this looked like a potential option. I've always been interested in personal finance but have no coaching experience. I wondered if anyone was currently doing the role or had access to a money coach through their work who could talk about their experience?

Hi @Schnapps00 thanks for the context and info above, this is something I've been looking at separately to Octopus but would be interested in the role with them. Would it be possible to ask you a bit more about the income, the way it works in practice please?

@Halister Apologies, just seen, I don't seem to get notifications well on here! Feel free to pm or ask on the thread so others avoid doubling up?

Hi @Schnapps00 you have been very helpful with your insights, thank you. Just wanted to know, what is the split between finding your own clients to leads provided by Octopus. How many clients does the average coach in the 1st year?

@NaiceLemonHelper A lot depends on how many hours you do and how much time you devote to personal marketing/networking, I've been say 95% reliant on the flow of workplace clients and have rarely had times when the diary has been quiet. The other variable is the rate you convert clients at, ie. as you get better at explaining the benefits and painting a picture of how people get value from the service, your conversion should improve - there's lots of training & feedback given around that though.
You get paid a bit more for clients that you source yourself, but for sure it's more effort than just having them drop into the diary (and the workplace partners team put a lot of effort into making sure employees are well informed with emails/info webinars etc before the main launch). As awareness grows of the sector it can only get easier too!

@EdFraser What did you do..😂

NaiceLemonHelper · 19/02/2025 18:50

@Schnapps00 Thank you that is really helpful. Last questions (I promise :), how many hours per client do you spend (once onboarded) and what is the conversion rate like?

Halister · 24/02/2025 15:41

Hi @Schnapps00, as @NaiceLemonHelper says, you've been really helpful, thank you very much for answering the questions. I'm not sure if you're happy to aswer these? I'm trying to understand what I could realistically earn, I'm looking to go from a FT employed position to doing this PT-FT. It's trying to understand if it's a viable option. What can I earn? How much time do you spend with each client? How much involvement are they encouraging a coach to have in find their own clients or are they happy for you to work off?

Hi @Schnapps00 - I realise I'm resurrecting my own zombie thread, but I've had an email from Octopus Money saying they're recruiting for the next intake (applications close Fri 5th). However, they've said the role has changed and now there is a sales aspect to it - which I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with. I'm assuming the role has changed since you started - if so it would be interesting to hear your perspective on how different it is, now that a sales role has been introduced within the wider 'coach' role?
