Would love to hear what online businesses you set up, the main challenges you face and at a high level the money it can bring in annually.

I've been looking at building online courses to buying an already established e commerce website. But just starting my search.

Building online courses can be good. I do customer services for online courses within financial education field.
Some things to think about:
How often will the course need to be updated.
Will course members expect new content to be added.
Pre-sale enquiries - this can take up time and may not get a sale.
Post-sale enquiries - this takes time and patience. Often the same questions time and again, people expecting you to be able to sort out their IT issues - such as them not being able to view a video due to an incompatibility with their browser. Purchase issues such as their card being declined or not able to use OTP. Questions about the course content, relating to content or wanting general advice about their personal situation.
The more you sell the more you will get customer service enquiries. So it is not as passive an income as you may first think.
You also need to spend time on marketing. Building a course is one thing, finding people who want to buy it at the price you need to make it viable is quite another.
