Take home SMP

Hello

Please could someone help me work out what my take home SMP will be? I am due in Aug 23.

I understand that I will get:
6 weeks 90% pay, which for me is £450/wk (after tax and ni)
33 weeks of £172/week (after tax and ni)
(Plus Child benefit of £24/week - not taxable)

What I can't work out is my actual take home - how much tax and ni do I pay? I'm a 20% tax payer. Do I pay 20% on all of these payments? What % is NI?

Also do I continue to pay my 3% pension contribution, and will my employer continue to pay their 4% contribution?

Thank you!

Here is a take home pay calculator as you need your tax code to get an accurate figure rather than just I am a 20% tax payer. Hope that helps. Your tax code should be on your pay slip, though you may get a new one for the new tax year on Wednesday.

As for pension contributions how you pay them can affect whether they continue to be paid or not so worth checking with your employer.

As pp said use a gross to net calculator.

You will probably find after the first 6 weeks on SMP you will not pay tax and may get a tax refund. Your tax free allowance is spread over the year and when your earnings drop below 1/12 you get a rebate.
