Basically as my spending is the same month in month out, my credit card company were suspicious when weird purchases were being made and froze my account, I tried to buy something and couldn't so I contacted card company and confirmed what stuff was mine and what wasn't also that I had my credit card in my possession so it hadn't been stolen.

I rang one of the companies that an order had been placed with and they had flagged it as worth investigation because the billing address and delivery address were 200 miles apart geographically. So that means not only do they have my credit card details they also have my name and address.

I have been advised to destroy the card which I have and new one is being sent. I have also signed up to 30 day trial from experian to get my credit report but I have to wait for them to send me a pin.

Anyone know what happens now??? I am still reeling to be honest. I shred everything, we even have a 2nd line security option on the credit card which means when I buy something on-line a new window comes up and I have to enter another code but not all companies use this.

I am bloody pissed off too, but glad that it was caught really quick.

Sorry to hear this has happened. It is actually quite common! Shredding is a good idea, but there's all kinds of ways they can get the information - usually by you legitimately buying something and someone selling on your details. At least it has been spotted and you haven't lost too much money.

Happened to my dad a few weeks ago to a card he hasn't used in ages, that is still in his pocket that has never been used online etc. He has no idea how they got his details

The bank refunded everything.

Thanks for your replies.

Mastercard have gone through a list with us of things that have been purchased recently, we think that it all started with a £1 transaction at Carphone Warehouse to test the card.

Luckily we have been with Mastercard for about 5 years so they have a good history of our shopping record.

My friend has to use her credit card that she only has for emergencies to secure her a room at a Travel Lodge and had to swipe it when she was there and her card details were nicked from that.
