Universal credit and upfront rent

Hi. In order to secure a property after being faced with eviction, I have been asked to shell out the rent upfront. Whilst family and friends will offer a loan, will I be able to cover costs via universal credit only if they accept that rent for the month is still due. If UC state that it's all been paid for, then I would be in big trouble.

You could ask you council for a discretionary housing payment- sometimes they will pay for the first month if you are at risk of homelessness. This is separate to UC but UC will pay rent from when your tenancy starts if it falls within your assessment period

Is it 1 month up front or full contract up front?

What @Danikm151 said, OP. I did this; it worked out fine. Had to be pretty on the ball regarding timing but it was ok.

It is full contract upfront, sorry should have stated that. Securing the money from family and friends is not a problem. The problem is if UC say it's been paid for.

They won't know it has been paid for upfront. Just report what rent you are paying when your tenancy starts.

I used to pay quarterly in advance, all I had to show was my tenancy agreement stating what my monthly rent was and they paid it.

My friend had this. Paying rent upfront did not affect her benefits - she's on UC. She was very upfront with them and checked it would be OK before going ahead with the rental.

Thank you to those that have replied! It gives me hope! Only thing I'm worried about is if it states I need to pay upfront on my tenancy agreement or States the figure paid upfront

they have to verify details with your landlord as well (even once you’ve supplied tenancy)
