Just won £1000 so thinking of dipping into this fund, first time experience with these things....broker friend says its not a good investment as too much exposure to worldwide events and issues, but as I won the money I thought I might gamble a bit...!!

That fund is very heavily weighted towards the US market.

You may be better with an All World investment to spread the risk a little. I invest with Vanguard so an option may be the VWRL ETF.

Is this your only investment, OP? If so, I agree with PP about maybe going for a global fund- you'll still get lots of exposure to the US. Bear in mind that 100% equities is at the higher risk end of investing, but it sounds as if that is what you want (and nothing wrong with that).

No. i have premium bonds and now take my teachers pension, the money was a win from a local raffle so unexpected and just wanted a little gamble. i could lose some of it and not be bitter !

Looks okay if you’re wanting to invest in the US. If you don’t have any other investments then maybe the Fidelity global index fund or similar?

Not sure what your broker friend means - the only way you’d lose money is if you sold at a loss, which you wouldn’t. Just hang on to it for 10 years plus it’ll be fine, it’s not gambling at all.

Congratulations on your win!

I will have a look at the Fidelity, I noted that the Hargreaves L fund, was currently down but had down well the year before....I dont understand these things, if the fund went down and down then my investment would be less...?....i do understand its a long term thing, thanks.
