Child benefit / Tax question

Hi. I started earning just above the threshold for child benefit in August 2021 and stopped my child benefit that month (single parent so no other earner in the house).

I was on the HMRC app this morning and noticed that 'child benefit' has always been taken off my tax free amount (£4712)

I didn't receive any child benefit for half of the last financial year or any of this one.

I have been on hold to HMRC to talk to them about this for the last 45 minutes but now have to go out.

Has this happened to anyone else and do you know if I am owed any sort of rebate? I am surprised that they are not more joined up as their records are still showing that I receive it.

Any advice gratefully received.

If you only earn just over the threshold can you increase pension contributions to qualify for it?

Appreciate this doesn't address your actual question, i apologise!

Haha thanks @Outnumbered99 - it's a tricky one as my base is just above the threshold but I also work on commission so my actual income is totally unpredictable. In a bad year it might still be just above the threshold. In a good year it could be upto 10k more - I hate the idea of getting that money then having to pay it back the following year so decided it was cleaner just to stop it. I really miss it though!
