Separating and remortgage - please help!

Wondering if anybody can advise as I’m really stressed about my new situation.

So my ex left me a few weeks ago for the OW. We were together 13 years but not married and we have 2 kids, youngest just turned 3.

He left straightaway and is renting a flat. I’m in the family home which has a mortgage - we are both on the mortgage and deeds.
Ideally id like to stay here as renting is going to be extremely difficult as I work part time and there is a lack of rentals in the area.
I worked out I could just about afford the mortgage and bills if I get universal credit and maintenance to top up my wages but the biggest problem is that our mortgage ends in July.

The payments will go up a lot but what I really need to know is can my ex stop the remortgage or take himself off the mortgage? If he tells them we are not together anymore then what would happen? Not sure how it works as I know he’s keen to get me out the house.

He can stop you either remortgaging with a different provider and switching products with the same provider.
He cannot take his name off the mortgage without the mortgage companies approval / your approval / court order.

@Idontgiveagriffindamn Thanks. I know I can’t remortgage with a different provider but wasn’t sure if I can just carry on paying the same provider. I’m guessing once our fixed rate ends we’d go onto a variable rate?

Can you afford to buy him out?

@MrsSchrute Not right now

What are your plans for buying his out ? Is he just going to wait indefinitely for his equity ? Have you even talked about it?

Once your product is up you’ll move onto their standard variable rate. You don’t want to stay on that as it’s expensive but you’ll need his agreement to move products. Maybe suggest something with a short terms or no early repayment charges
