Price increase on a new contract

We've just taken out new phone and broadband. The new provider messed up the switch. It should have all gone live on 28th Feb but only the phone did and broadband only started on 10th March (no broadband for 10 days which was a nightmare as I work from home). I'm waiting for a call re compensation but had a bill through on 10th March saying that our price would increase by £5 from 1st April (less than a months notice).

I know prices can increase mid contract but I feel like we've been misled as I wouldn't expect it to increase more or less as soon as our contract starts. We never would have taken it out had the actual cost been the offered price.

We have the option to leave them so if we need to we'll just do that. The whole thing has been such a shambles.

I'm wondering if anyone knows they can offer one price and then bill 1 reflects a whole new price? I don't want to be unreasonable but we can't pay the new price so I'm wondering whether we can contest the increase or whether we should just leave.

The contract t&c's usually state that the price will be reviewed on the 1st April each year inline with inflation. I have deliberately been waiting to redo my contracts until after this so I have a proper idea of what I will be charged.

Was it BT?? I took out a new 24 month contract on 25th February, knowing that it would increase but the new cost plus the 14.4% was still under my old bill DD so was happy. However, when I got an email saying it was going up, it was nearly 25% increase because they work out the price increase on the full cost of the package that you have not the reduced price that you are paying. So phoned up and had a moan and the lovely lady on the phone moved me to the same deal with a new contract for £1 extra from original deal I signed up to and no price increase at the end of March. Also in the hope when it goes up next year inflation won't be so high. No cancellation costs as staying with them.
