How do you claim money left to you in a will over 30 years ago?

My great-grandmother left my mum some money in her will when she died. My mum was living abroad at the time and never claimed it! She often wonders how to go about claiming it but doesn't know where to start. Does anyone know where or who I could contact to make enquiries? TIA

you will need to find the will, find out who the solicitors were and what happened to the estate? Did her share maybe go to someone else if they couldn't trace your mother?

I believe all her siblings got their share and that hers was to be held in Trust. Is there a timescale to claim? The solicitors were based up north but I don't think they are in business any longer.

they probably passed their records to another firm though or merged with someone else. What was the law firm called?

Thanks for responding! We aren't 100% sure but could find out. I guess a 'google' search could help or do you think the law society would hold some info on the company?

worth asking the law society about the firm in question

You need to find out about the solicitors firm - what happened to them and their business - and then phone whoever is now responsible for their business. You may have to pay for research etc (i have no idea), so check if you will and check with family if the money your mother wil receive will actually cover it!
